Borrowing Limit and Loan Period

The number of items and loan periods vary depending on your status.

General Books

  • Only graduate students and undergraduate students can borrow “Recommended Books”.
  • “Recommended Books” may not be borrowed from one week before the Faculty of Economics’ examination period until the end of the period.

How to Borrow

Borrow at the Library of Economics

  • Please bring materials you wish to borrow to the circulation desk and present your UTokyo ID/Student ID/Library card.
  • Please note that most of the Library of Economics’ materials are in the stacks. Eligibility to enter the stacks depends on your affiliation and status.
  • If you are not eligible to enter the stacks, the staff will retrieve the materials you need from the stacks. Please apply at the circulation desk during stack service hours.

Book Delivery

Using MyOPAC, you can request book delivery to your department’s library or to one of the Main Libraries: the General Library, the Komaba Library, or the Kashiwa Library.

Approximate Delivery Time

Hongo/Komaba Campus

The afternoon of the application day or the next day, except on Saturdays and when the library is closed

Campuses other than Hongo or Komaba

2 to 4 days after application, except on Saturdays and when the library is closed

Returning

You can return the Library of Economics’ materials to any University of Tokyo library.

  • If there are any instructions from the holding libraries, please follow them.
  • Book drop at the library entrance is available. Please note that it is not available on Sundays and holidays when the Akamon General Research Building is closed, except for members of the Graduate School and the Faculty of Economics who have a building access card.

Renewal

  • You can renew your loans via MyOPAC before the due date, unless they have not been reserved by another user. It will be renewed up to one time from the day of renewal.
  • Or please bring the materials to the circulation desk. You can renew them as many times as you like, if they have not been reserved by another user.

Reservation

You can reserve materials that are on loan via MyOPAC.

Penalty

If you return materials after the due date, your borrowing privileges at the Library of Economics will be suspended.
