Library Manners

Please follow the rules below to help maintain a good environment for research, study, and material preservation.

Keep quiet

Please do not talk in the library to maintain a quiet environment.
* Talking is allowed while studying or doing research in the group study room.

No talking on mobile phones, etc.

Please make phone calls outside the library.

No eating or drinking

Eating and drinking are prohibited in the library to prevent damage to facilities and materials, insect damage, and unpleasant odors.
* You can only drink beverages in spill-proof containers in the group study room.

Take care of your personal belongings when leaving your seat

  • Please keep your valuables with you when leaving your seat, even if only for a short time.
  • Items left unattended for an extended time may be taken to the circulation desk for safekeeping. (Food and beverages will be disposed of for hygiene reasons.)

Disaster Prevention Measures

Evacuation Routes

In the Reading Room

In the event of a disaster, please evacuate according to staff instructions.

Inside the Stacks

Evacuation routes are posted near the elevators on each floor.
Please check the evacuation route in advance.
Evacuation instructions may also be announced over the speakers.

Earthquake Early Warning System alarm

An alarm will sound in the reading room and stacks if an earthquake of magnitude 3 or higher is predicted by the Earthquake Early Warning System.
If an alarm sounds, please take the following actions:

  • Exit between the shelves. There is a risk of being buried by falling materials.
  • Protect your head by hiding under a desk or something similar.
Precautions

Due to the nature of the Earthquake Early Warning System, the following events are expected:

  • An alarm sounds, but there’s no earthquake.
  • An alarm sounds after an earthquake.
