  • Former full-time faculty members who are recommended by a faculty member of the Graduate School of Economics and granted permission by the Library Director can borrow books (3 books for 2 weeks). Please inquire at the circulation desk for details.
  • Faculty members from outside the Graduate School and the Faculty of Economics who teach there can borrow under the same conditions as its faculty members. Current journals are in-library use only.

In-library use only

  • Graduates of the Graduate School of Economics who are recommended by a faculty member of the Graduate School of Economics and granted permission by the Library Director can borrow books (3 books for 2 weeks). Please ask at the circulation desk for details.
  • “Recommended Books” may not be borrowed from one week before the Faculty of Economics’ examination period until the end of the period.
  • Students in the Economic Policy Program and the Master of Public Policy, International Program at the Graduate School of Public Policy can borrow under the same conditions as graduate students at the Graduate School of Economics.

Notes

  • The maximum number of items is counted separately for each University of Tokyo library.
  • The maximum number of items is counted separately for general books and “Recommended Books”.
    • For example, undergraduate students may borrow up to five general books and three “Recommended Books” at a time.

How to Borrow

  • Please bring materials you wish to borrow to the circulation desk and present your UTokyo ID/Student ID/Library card.
  • Please note that most of the Library of Economics’ materials are in the stacks.
  • Faculty, staff, and graduate students of the Graduate School and the Faculty of Economics are eligible to enter the stacks. Undergraduate students of the Faculty of Economics must take a library tour in advance to enter the stacks.
  • If you are not eligible to enter the stacks, the staff will retrieve the materials you need from the stacks. Please apply at the circulation desk during stack service hours.

Returning

You can return the Library of Economics’ materials to any University of Tokyo library.

  • If there are any instructions from the holding libraries, please follow them.
  • Book drop at the library entrance is available. Please note that it is not available on Sundays and holidays when the Akamon General Research Building is closed, except for members of the Graduate School and the Faculty of Economics who have a building access card.

Renewal

  • You can renew your loans via MyOPAC before the due date, unless they have not been reserved by another user. It will be renewed up to one time from the day of renewal.
  • Or please bring the materials to the circulation desk. You can renew them as many times as you like, if they have not been reserved by another user.

Reservation

You can reserve materials that are on loan via MyOPAC.

Penalty

If you return materials after the due date, your borrowing privileges at the Library of Economics will be suspended.
