If you wish to visit libraries outside the University of Tokyo, the Library of Economics will inquire about the availability of materials and will issue a letter of introduction.
How to Apply
Please apply at the Library of Economics circulation desk or using the form below at least three opening days (excluding Saturday opening days and holiday opening days) before the preferred date.
Applying at the Circulation Desk
Please fill out a reference service application form and submit it to the staff.
Applying through the Form

Issuing a Letter of Introduction
A letter of introduction will be issued a few days after your application, except on Saturdays and library closed days. The library will notify you by email when it will be available.
Notes
- The University of Tokyo libraries may hold the materials you need. Search UTokyo OPAC to see if they are available.
- If the materials you need are not available at your preferred library, we will recommend an alternative, including a delivery service.
- Please inform the Library of Economics if it is difficult for you to visit the holding library.
Using the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE) Library
Since June 25, 2016, members of the Graduate School and the Faculty of Economics have been able to visit the IDE library and borrow books in accordance with the memorandum on mutual use between the Library of Economics and the IDE library.

Visiting the Harvard University Libraries
Since November 2015, the University of Tokyo’s full-time faculty members, undergraduate students and graduate students have been able to visit the Harvard University libraries by presenting their Student ID/UTokyo ID in accordance with the memorandum on mutual use between the University of Tokyo libraries and the Harvard University libraries.
