- To use the library, you must register in advance.
- After registering, you may enter any University of Tokyo library and borrow materials.
- If any of your registration information changes, including your enrollment period, please apply for renewal either through the web form or at the Library of Economics circulation desk.
Individuals Subject to the Service
- Members of the Graduate School and the Faculty of Economics (including Professors Emeritus of the Graduate School of Economics)
- Members of the Graduate School of Public Policy who use the Library of Economics as their “Home Library
How to Apply
You can apply either through the web form or at the Library of Economics circulation desk.
Applying through the Web Form
The library staff register your information in the library system, except on Saturdays and library closed days. Please wait until we send you an email when your registration is complete.
Applying at the Circulation Desk
Please submit the “Application form to Pass to Libraries of the University of Tokyo”.
Service Hours for Registration: From 9:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, except when the library is closed

Students
After your registration is complete, you can use your Student ID with an IC chip as a library card.
Undergraduate Students, Graduates Students, Undergraduate/Graduate Research Students
- Once you have entered your contact information (phone number, email address, and mailing address) into the UTAS system, your registration will be complete. No separate application to the library is required.
- Please update the UTAS system if any of your contact information changes.
Students who cannot Use the UTAS System
(Undergraduate Auditing Students, Graduate Special Auditing Students, and Undergraduate/Graduate Non-degree Students)
Applying through the Web Form
- Document(s) to be uploaded: A copy of your Student ID with an IC chip
Applying at the Circulation Desk
- Please fill out the “Application form to Pass to Libraries of the University of Tokyo” and submit it in person, and present your Student ID with an IC chip for verification.
Faculty and Staff
- ID with an IC chip: Once your registration is complete, you can use your UTokyo ID/Professor Emeritus ID as a library card.
- ID without an IC chip: Once your registration is complete, the library will lend you a library card with an IC chip that allows you to enter the library and borrow books.
When you apply through the web form, please visit the library within seven days of receiving notice and obtain your library card. - Please return your library card to the library promptly when it expires.
- If you are issued a UTokyo ID/Professor Emeritus ID with an IC chip, please apply to change your registration from a library card to a UTokyo ID/Professor Emeritus ID, and then return your library card.
Those without a Fixed Term of Enrollment (including Professors Emeritus)
Applying through the Web Form
- Document(s) to be uploaded:
- A copy of your UTokyo ID/Professor Emeritus ID with an IC chip (if applicable)
- In case your ID does not have an IC chip: A copy of your enrollment certificate or identity document issued by the Graduate School and the Faculty of Economics, that includes the required information (your name, department, status, period of enrollment, and issuing department (and its stamp))
Applying at the Circulation Desk
- Please fill out the “Application form to Pass to Libraries of the University of Tokyo” and submit it in person, and present the following for verification:
- UTokyo ID/Professor Emeritus ID with an IC chip (if applicable)
- In case your ID does not have an IC chip: A copy of your enrollment certificate or identity document issued by the Graduate School and the Faculty of Economics, that includes the required information (your name, department, status, period of enrollment, and issuing department (and its stamp))
Those with a Fixed Term of Enrollment (Project-related Faculty, Visiting Faculty, Fixed-term Staff, etc.)
