  2. (JOHN MAYNARD KEYNES typed letter signed to ROY HARROD.
January 25th 1943, 1 page, from Treasury Chambers. "I had sent the revised version to the printer before getting your letter. The form in which the passage in question has gone to him is as follows:-
'Before there is any question of destroying local food stocks surplus to international requirements, the exporters concerned will be expected to offer them to the Control at a nominal price of disposal to a Nutritional Council or similar body.'
Do you think this is objectionable? Personally, I would much rather not raise the point at an for the reason you give. Your version is, I agree, harmless, but for that reason it looks an the more unnecessary and seems to be making a great bother about nothing. I will wait and see what the Ministry of Food say."

  4. JOHN MAYNARD KEYNES typed letter signed to ROY HARROD.
February 2nd 1943, 1 page, from Treasury Chambers. "Primary Products After correspondence with Crick of the Ministry of Food, we think that the most harmless way of meeting the point about destruction of stocks is to delete 14 (viii) in the existing draft and to replace this with a new 11 (ix) as follows:
"11(ix) Common controls would set their faces against any deliberate destruction of food which otherwise might take place locally whether or not..." 1
